Katra is a picaresque region in Jammu and Kashmir and it is known for its famed temple of Goddess Vaishno Devi. The temple is highly revered and every year hundreds of tourists travel to this shrine to pay their respects to the Goddess. Vaishno Devi shrine is located in the lap of Trikuta hills which is 13 Kms from base camp Katra, which is one of the prominent town of District Reasi and 63 kms from Jammu city. The Shrine is famous pilgrimage centre in Jammu and Kashmir state. It is managed by Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board since 1986. Maa Vaishno Devi is said to be an incarnation of the fiercest Maha Kali, the most knowledgeable Maha Saraswati and the most generous Maha Lakshmi. According to one of the most famous legends, Maha Kali, Maha Saraswati and Maha Lakshmi merged their powers to annihilate the demonic forces that threatened the Universe. The geological studies reveal that the cave of Vaishnodevi is approximately one million years in age. Although the Rig Veda makes mention of the Trikuta, it does not refer to the worship of the 'Mother Goddess'. 'Shakti worship was initiated in the 'Puranic' period only. Just the night before the birth of the Divine Child, Ratnakar had promised that he would never ever interfere with whatever his child chose to do later in life. Mata Vaishno Devi was born the next day and was named Trikuta. She was later called Vaishnavi because she had taken birth from the lineage of Lord Vishnu. Perched at an altitude of 5200 feet, it involves a trek of nearly 12 km from the base camp at Katra. Despite this arduous journey, it is estimated that the shrine gets over one crore visitors annually, and more so during the Navratras. The climb of Vishno Devi Yatra itself is on a well-paved path with a gentle slope. The Vaishno Devi shrine holds the three Pindis that show the Mata in her three different forms, each representing an additional attribute. These three forms are Maha Kali, Maha Lakshmi, and Maha Saraswati. This attracts lakhs of devotees from all over the world to the temple every year.

Detailed Itinerary:

Day 1: Katra
Welcome to your ‘Simply Katra’ tour! On arrival airport in Jammu, you will be meet and greeted by our representative. Later, proceed to your Hotel in Katra. Overnight stay in Katra.

Day 2: Katra
The Day is at leisure for Visit to Maa Vaishnodevi Darshan. You can either trek to Maa Vaishnodevi Shrine or take a helicopter (on your own). Overnight stay in Katra.

Day 3: Katra
Today, we conclude our ‘Simply Katra’ tour. You will be transferred to Airport in Jammu with sweet memories of the tour.
